California Looks To Release All Violent Felons To Save The Cost Of Keeping Them Incarcerated.

AP Enterprise: Calif. freeing some violent inmates
Inmates convicted of violent crimes are among those being freed early from California jails to save money, despite lawmakers' promises that they would exclude most dangerous prisoners and sex offenders.

As part of the "catch and release" program that the State of California claims is necessary to balance the budget, the state has decided that it will be more cost effective to release violent felons rather than non-violent offenders. Like all government planning, this will serve the state in many ways. If any victims are killed or injured, then those victims won't vote against any future tax rate hikes or vote against any new taxes. Also, releasing violent felons may scare all the potential victims into voting for the next set of tax rate hikes and the next new taxes. Any deaths or injuries will serve as a reminder that if new tax rate hikes and new taxes are not approved, there are many more much more violent felons waiting for early release.

A regular win-win situation for the State of California. Who knows, after the next round of tax rate hikes and new taxes, the State of California can afford to give pay hikes to the tireless state workers who came up with this genius plan.

All Prisoners Look Alike.

Md. inmate leaves prison by impersonating cellmate
An inmate serving three life sentences for attempted murder convictions pretended to be a cellmate who was due for release and walked out of a Baltimore prison, corrections officials said Thursday night.

Three times the security guards checked the prisoners identification. And three times they failed to notice that the identification card did not match the person holding the card. The security guards never did notice their mistake. It was brought to their attention hours later by the prisoner who was supposed to be released.

If this is the level of care the government uses when watching a convicted felon, what do you think you can expect from the government when they are overseeing your health care issues?

California Early Prison Release Program Smashing Success!

http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=74615&catid=2
Sacramento early release inmate Kevin Peterson arrested for attempted rape; said release 'wasn't a bad deal'
A Sacramento County jail inmate released Monday night as part of California's effort to reduce the state's inmate population was arrested just hours later after police said he tried to rape a woman, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

In theory, according to politicians, only the "non-violent" prisoners are eligible for the early release from prison program.

If the people determining what prisoners are "non-violent", are the same people who are incapable of balancing the budget, then I guess we should not be surprised when there is the inevitable increase in crime.

I wonder if Charles Manson is considered "non-violent" since he hasn't killed anyone for the past few decades?

I wonder if pyromaniacs are considered "non-violent"? If they terminate firemen and let pyromaniacs loose, that would be a good lesson to the public.

In fact, I thought the early prison release program was an effort to punish the taxpayers for not continuously voting for more new taxes whenever the politicians asked for new taxes.

Now maybe the public will think twice about not voting for new taxes when the government asks for it!

California Launches Plan To Reduce Prison And Non-Prison Population Simultaneously.

California launches plan to cut prison population

As cost-saving measures, the number of parole violators returned behind bars will be cut and low-risk offenders will not be regularly supervised by a parole agent.
"It is not going to compromise public safety," Schwarzenegger said in a Sacramento speech.

Lily Burk's Alleged Killer Charged with New Felony Counts at Preliminary Hearing

Low-risk offender Charlie Samuel, with previous convictions for petty theft and robbery, is now on trial for Lily Burk's murder.

The State of California which has up until now proved themselves incompetent at balancing the budget are now looking forward to proving themselves incompetent at protecting the public from criminals.

Since trials can be lengthy and expensive, many prosecutors accept plea bargains to get convictions and clear the dockets. For example, if a man is accused of attempted murder, he may plea bargain down to harassment or some other crime with jail time. What it also means, is that this potential murderer, on paper, looks like a low-risk offender.

On the other hand, if you believe the claptrap nonsense that gets spouted whenever a politician opens his mouth, then there really are low-risk offenders in prison. What would real low-risk offenders be? Jaywalkers? Prostitutes? Marijuana smokers? ??? If so, then the State of California has been wasting millions if not billions of dollars putting people in prison who are not a threat to the citizens.

No matter how you look at it, the State of California is incompetent and incapable of doing the right thing. Which means the crime rate will go up, and your life will be in danger when these criminals are released in the streets of our cities.
