Are Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner trying to buy the election?

Of course they are trying to buy the election. In the grand tradition of corrupt politics, all politicians are used to buying their political office. Just ask former governor Rod Blagojevich about buying and selling political offices.

"Voters are electing people to represent themselves," he (Dave Levinthal with the Center for Responsive Politics in Washington D.C.) said. "Therefore, these candidates, no matter how much money they have, no matter how many movies they've made, still report to the people of California."

What a great sound bite. Spoken like a true politician. With not a word of truth in the whole statement.

A more honest statement would read that "fat cat politicians, with their million dollar slush funds, with their full pensions after one term in office, in their chauffeur driven cars report to the people of California, but they answer to the special interest groups that fund their campaigns". Is it possible that Meg Whitman or Steve Poizner will answer to the people? Sure it is. It is also possible that the sun won't rise in the east and that Barack Hussein Obama will finally tell the truth. It is just not very likely.

Even if you are willing to suspend your ability to think, and accept that Meg Whitman or Steve Poizner if elected will do what is best for California, you are forgetting one not so minor problem. All the rest of the politicians in Sacramento that are unwilling to balance the budget. Their time is better spent prohibiting teenage girls from getting nipple rings, deciding the price and kind of grocery bags available to shoppers (paper or plastic) or declaring war on Arizona.

Lest you think I am coming down too hard on California politicians, let me remind you of the Health Care Deform Bill recently passed in Washington District of Criminals (D.C.). When congress first tried to pass the bill, they had to bribe some of the politicians to vote for it. When the politicians realized that the senate would NOT pass the congressional bill, congress tried to pass the bill by pretending it had already passed and they were simply amending the bill. When that didn't work, and congress finally decided to accept the senat version of the Health Care Deform bill, the congressmen were assured that as a matter of public policy they could find out what the bill does by voting for the bill. Does this seem like politicians who are answering to their constituents? If so, why were so many democrats rushing to announce their retirement after the bill passed?

The poll, which surveyed 1,168 likely voters, found that 49% think marijuana use should be made legal, 48% do not and 3% do not know, suggesting that the proponents of the legalization measure will have to wage an expensive and persuasive campaign.

Before the anti-marijuana laws, marijuana was grown by small numbers of individual growers or by the individuals who smoked. After passage of the anti-marijuana laws, entire countries (Mexico, Columbia, ...) have devoted their whole economy to growing marijuana. In fact, if you look at the Forbes 500 wealthiest men, you will now find drug lords on that list.

So you don't need to be worried that the government will start taking a rational approach to the drug problem (or any other problem). You can rest assured that the government will continue to create any crisis that it can in their eternal quest to grab more power and to increase the size of government and to oppress the people that they claim to represent.

Why is the State of California upset that the managers of a public pension fund were working towards their retirement plan?

These two men were simply doing what they were paid to do. Planning their retirement. Of course they were not as careful as most politicians are in concealing their criminal activity when acting against the best interest of the people they were supposed to be serving. The above headline might seem like a joke. It isn't. Senior staffers at the Securities and Exchange Commission were surfing Internet pornography when they should have been policing the financial system. It is too bad that federal government employees are not responsible for their actions. I would think that getting paid $200,000 or more per year should get at least a barely competent employee. But these are government employees, so barely competent is best we can ever expect. And of course, none of these people will ever be punished for gross negligence or held responsible for what they did.

But any regulator who can be bribed with a subscription to an Internet porn site should be willing to work for the federal government for a heck of a lot less money than they are currently being paid.

After examining all the data and consulting with numerous experts inside and outside of government, the Government Accountability Office concluded (PDF) that it is "difficult, if not impossible, to quantify the economy-wide impacts."

Gee. This is surprising. The government is once again caught lying to the public to defend the special interest groups that bribed the government to pass laws for the special interest groups.

Back in 1986, the rapacious movie and music industry decided that they needed more stringent laws to protect their excessive profits. They figured out that the best way to insure continued excessive profits, is to bribe senators and congressmen to pass legislation to protect their business model.

Since at that time, there was no problem with piracy, and no proof that a problem existed, the movie and music industry did what any good government agency would do. The movie and music industry lied. But the movie and music industry did a very bad job of lying. The movie and music industry didn't even bother making up phony studies. The movie and music industry just flat out lied about the consequences of piracy on the music and movie business. Maybe next time they should use the "Global Warming" scientists who also lie outrageously, but at least take the time to create phony reports that purport to show that research was actually done.

The government didn't care about the lies, because the only thing the government cares about is getting another excuse to increase the size of government. So the government spread these lies among the agencies that needed more ammunition for size increases.

Unfortunately, some misguided politicians who didn't realize how corrupt the government is, managed to get passed the "Freedom of Information Act". When private citizens questioned the piracy loss numbers, they kept requesting more and more information until the private citizens traced the fraudulent numbers back to their source. Which was made up numbers with no relationship to reality.

The government calculates the unemployment rate by the people who file for unemployment benefits. If you used to work as a highly paid skilled worker and you are now working as a fast food restaurant cook or cashier (even though you can't support yourself), you are no longer counted as unemployed. If you have given up hope and no longer look for work you are dropped from unemployment benefits and no longer counted as unemployed. If you are unemployed for too long and your benefits run out, the government no longer counts you as unemployed.

Thus the longer this great depression lasts, the more the unemployment rate drops. This gives the government the excuse it needs to claim that the economy is improving because the unemployment rate is dropping.

While on paper and in government statistics factories this may look good, I don't think this is the solution to unemployment that the average slave citizen of this country was hoping for.

Monitors that detect the odorless, lethal gas already are required in new homes. The bill would extend the requirement to all houses, apartments and condominiums meeting the requirement but would exempt college dorms at state colleges and universities.

The California Senate decided that as part of any advanced education, students should be afforded the opportunity to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. After all, college and university students don't pay taxes. College and university students are a drain on society because of their wasteful spending habits and reckless borrowing. With the State of California having the highest unemployment rate in the country, even if the college and university students could graduate, they wouldn't be able to get job to repay their student loans, so they would only end up on welfare. So it is no loss if the college and university students don't live to graduate.

Property owned or leased by the state, including California State University and community college campuses, the University of California or a local government agency would be exempt. Those college dorms are not part of the mandate because of the projected cost to the state for installing the monitors.

Funny, but the State of California seems to think that their inability to pay is a reasonable excuse to exempt them from a law that they want to enforce on a majority of the slaves citizens who are in equal or worse financial shape.

Then again, could it be simply that the State of California is not required to obey any laws that it makes for the slaves citizens?

The staggering amount of unfunded debt stands to crowd out funding for many popular programs. Reform will take something sadly lacking in the Legislature: political courage.

The criminal political class has plenty of courage. They just hate to waste it on political reform. They are happier using it to defraud the public. Which is why the political class never met a raise they didn't like. Which is why our political class is now paid more than double what the same position in private business is paid. Which is why the political class does half the work the same position in private business does.

The state of California's real unfunded pension debt clocks in at more than $500 billion, nearly eight times greater than officially reported.

The State of California has been ripping off the public for more than a decade. How has the State of California been doing this? They have been knuckling under to the demands of the unions for higher wages and retirement benefits, without having to pay anything extra into the retirement plans. Like any good criminal enterprise, the State of California has been keeping two sets of books. One set of books they display to the slaves citizens which shows what a good job the State of California has been doing in spending the tax money and balancing the budget. The other set of books shows how the underhanded tactics and the unfunded debt incurred by the State of California are sinking the State in a sea of debt.

What can we do about this? For the promises already made, nothing. They are contractual, and because that $500 billion of debt must be paid, retirement costs will rise dramatically no matter what we do. But we can reduce the sizes of promises made to new employees and require full and truthful disclosure so that pension debt can never again be hidden.

Spoken like a true politician. Full of lies and misdirection. The political hacks all claim the problem can not be fixed. They continue to claim we need to raise taxes, and cut our spending and give political hacks and their beneficiaries a raise.

The political hacks, as usual, are 100% wrong. Instead of facing the problem like a gangster politician and claiming there is nothing that can be done to fix the problem, the gangsters politicians need to face the problem like a business. When a business faces bankruptcy, they don't demand every one in the vicinity to pay up or else? A business that can't meet it's costs closes down it's operations (including union contracts and pension benefits), and tells every one there is no more money and go elsewhere. You are out of luck.

Our current education system is the laughing stock of the world. When the State of California (which has the highest paid teachers in the country) determined that less than 50% of the students graduate with the ability to read and write, the State of California decided to stop giving exit exams that test the level of learning of graduates.

Our current criminal justice system is the laughing stock of the world. We don't have enough money to keep rapist and serial killers in prison. So we continue to pass more laws to jail jaywalkers and marijuana smokers and let the rapists and serial killers out of jail early without any oversight. And when the state provides oversight of rapists, they manage to ignore someone who raped and held a victim captive for almost 20 years.

So when I suggest that the State of California simply cancel all contracts, fire everyone, and close their doors, we will actually be no worse off than we are already. We would end up better off, because we could start over again, maybe with even less corruption than before.

DWP plans 37% rate hike over four years to cover cost increases

The L.A. utility's managers unveiled the plan as the council's Energy and Environment Committee debated the mayor's proposal to boost rates to pay for renewable energy.

Actually the city has NO plans for renewable energy.

The City of Los Angeles is facing bankruptcy for it's inefficient and corrupt way of doing business. But since the government can do no wrong, there is nothing to fix. So rather than reform the government to do a better job, the government is looking for ways to raise taxes. What better excuse is there to raise taxes then the fraud of "Global Warming". "Global Warming" is the perfect political scam. It is very easy to pretend to care that the global temperature is rising 1 degree over the next 100 years. No matter how outrageous the bribes and political payouts to benefactors the corrupt politicians make, they can always claim it is for the good of the planet. How can you argue with that? How can you disprove that?

That money is enough to pay for 1,000 jobs in a year when the city is pondering layoffs.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is having trouble keeping his story straight. As a self serving political parasite feeding on the life of the slaves citizens that is understandable. So when in one sentence Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa claims that the tax increase is for green projects, and in the next sentence Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says that the D.W.P. won't turn money over to the city to prevent bankruptcy, how can we possibly misunderstand his message.

His message, like all other politicians, is give me all you have, and I will spend it for you the way I think it should be spent.
