It is said that government workers now make, on average, 30% more than private sector workers. Put that fantasy aside. It far underestimates the real figures. By my calculations, government workers make more than twice as much. Government workers are America's fastest-growing millionaires.

Boy was I brought up wrong. I always thought that when I grew up I was supposed to find a job and work for a living. I was supposed to make something useful. I was supposed to do something useful. Or if that wasn't enough for me, start my own business. Work hard, and I would be rewarded.

Instead I find out how wrong I was. The best way to make money, is get a job working for the government. Once you are in the union, you can't get fired. Once you are in the union, your wages and retirement plan skyrocket.

Why should I, or anyone else waste our time starting our own business or even working? The quickest way to become wealthy is to get a government job.

More Americans than forecast filed applications for unemployment benefits last week, indicating firings persist even as the economy rebounds and employment picks up.

1/2 a million people filed for unemployment benefits last week. That is 1/2 a million more than before. These are jobs that are disappearing permanently. Never to return. And economists call this a recovery? If this is an economic recovery, then I would hate to see an economic disaster. Although based on the recent economic prognostications, economists may be incapable of recognizing a disaster as long as they are on the government dole. If you remember the definitions:
- a recession is when your neighbor is unemployed
- a depression is when you are unemployed
So it may well be that according to the great white father, as long as he is employed there will never be a depression in this country. However, the millions of people who have lost their jobs and continue to lose their jobs might disagree. The millions of people who are facing losing their homes might disagree.

Stock-index futures trimmed earlier gains following the reports. The contract on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 2.1 percent to 1,083.3 at 8:51 a.m. in New York. Treasury securities dropped, pushing the yield on the 10-year note up to 3.27 percent from 3.19 percent late yesterday.

But I shouldn't be surprised. When economists quote the stock market to prove that the economy is recovering, you know they are more clueless than the weathermen who claim that global warming has caused the latest cooling streak. Expecting economists to tell the truth is like expecting Barack Hussein Obama to stop bowing to foreign dictators. Expecting economists to tell the truth is like expecting Barack Hussein Obama to stop smiling when he listens to foreign dictators when they disparage the United States. Expecting economists to tell the truth is like expecting Barack Hussein Obama to stop apologizing for being an American.

The number of people receiving unemployment insurance and those getting extended payments declined.

Of course the number of people receiving unemployment benefits has declined. Unemployment benefits don't last forever. At some point benefits run out. When the unemployment benefits run out, the government stops caring about you. The government has so much to keep track of, that they can't be bothered to keep track of people who have been unemployed for years and have no hope of every getting hired again. Besides, it looks good for economists when people fall off the unemployment charts. If the unemployed are no longer receiving benefits, the government feels relief that they no longer need to count those unemployed as unemployed. As people age out of the unemployment system, this allows the government to claim that unemployment is down.

Jobless Claims Increase

In a troubling sign for the U.S. labor market, the number of workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly surged last week to wipe out most of the recent declines.

No need to worry. If a Muslim terrorist sneaking a bomb on board an airplane is proof that our increased security is working, then the growing number of unemployed people is proof that the economy is recovering.

The Labor Department said in its weekly report Thursday that initial claims for jobless benefits rose by 25,000 to 471,000 in the week ended May 15. Economists who were surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had predicted claims would fall by 4,000.

All economists that ever hope to get a government job, or a government grant, are unable to predict anything other than an improving economy. So it should come as no surprise that the economists are shocked that unemployment is on the rise.

The previous week's level was revised upward as well, to 446,000 from 444,000.

It should also come as no surprise that the government is continually revising prior positive growth figures to more accurately reflect the negative dying economy.

Total claims lasting more than one week, meanwhile, fell.

Of course the government has to try to lie about something to prove the economy is improving. But proclaiming that the increasing number of people on long term unemployment is decreasing, without mentioning that the decrease is because the decreasing numbers are from people who's unemployment benefits have run out is government dishonesty at it's best.

Only four of the 10 leading indicators increased in April. The most positive indicators were the interest rate spread and stock prices.

However the price of stock has absolutely nothing to do with the economy. For those who have forgotten the recent sub prime mortgage disaster, that was a case of people paying inflated prices on worthless paper. And since interest rates are set by the Federal Reserve Bank, they again have nothing to with the economy at all.

Which means that two of the 10 leading indicators still show an improved economy. Which means that only 80% of the indicators show a dying economy.

Obviously we have nothing to worry about. The government is on the case and fixing the economy.

Some U.S. states find recovery hope in jobs data

Don't you just love the way the government lies to the public?

The government calculates the unemployment rate by the people who file for unemployment benefits. If you used to work as a highly paid skilled worker and you are now working as a fast food restaurant cook or cashier (even though you can't support yourself), you are no longer counted as unemployed. If you have given up hope and no longer look for work you are dropped from unemployment benefits and no longer counted as unemployed. If you are unemployed for too long and your benefits run out, the government no longer counts you as unemployed.

Thus the longer this great depression lasts, the more the unemployment rate drops. This gives the government the excuse it needs to claim that the economy is improving because the unemployment rate is dropping.

While on paper and in government statistics factories this may look good, I don't think this is the solution to unemployment that the average slave citizen of this country was hoping for.

The nation added jobs at the fastest pace in three years last month as factories, stores, hospitals and the census all brought workers on board — the surest sign yet that the worst employment market in a generation has finally snapped back.

Any honest person knows that the greatest depression this country has ever faced is nowhere near being over. While we are still in the middle of the worst depression this country has ever seen, all Timothy F. Geithner can do about it is to pretend that it is over, and getting better. Of course Timothy F. Geithner knows this is a lie. Timothy F. Geithner knows the socialist-in-chief didn't fix the economy more than a year ago, and knows that the socialist-in-chief has no interest in fixing the economy. However, since many of their supporters are still in denial about the actual plans and goals of the socialist-in-chief, Timothy F. Geithner needs to continue to pretend that the economy is fine, and that all the unemployed and homeless are only staying unemployed and homeless to hurt the image of the greatest socialist who has ever run this country into the ground.

The only way you can have 20% underemployment, is when the businesses that hire people don't exist any more.

So I am not sure why Gallup bothers to track underemployment.

It is not like we have a federal government that cares about underemployment or is planning on doing anything about underemployment. For the last year the federal government has been trying it's best (which is never any good) to brainwash the American public into believing that the economy has already been saved. If the underemployed will only be patient, all will be made clear to them. Why even as we speak, the federal government is trying their best to convince the few remaining businesses that haven't failed, that they will get tax benefits if they can somehow manage to hire more people while the economy continues to crumble.

Which makes perfect sense to me. Convincing failing businesses to hire more people seems like a perfect way to fix the underemployment problem. After all, we wouldn't want to make life too easy for anyone dumb enough to want to start or keep their business going in the U.S.S.A.

Overtime pay may be putting a dent in state's furlough savings

Furloughs are expected to save the state $1.2 billion this fiscal year. But last year some workers more than offset those cuts with increased overtime.

Who expects the furloughs to save the state money?

Anybody who can say with a straight face that government furloughs of employees will save money is either being bribed by the unions to say that, or has never worked for the government and seen the mismanagement, corruption and incompetence of government officials.

Any sane individual, or any business owner would save money by furloughing employees. Not the government. Any time the government furloughs employees, the government then hires back the furloughed employees at time and a half (overtime) to work their missing hours. So the net effect is that when the government furloughs employees, it costs taxpayers even more than not furloughing employees.

State Auditor Elaine Howle has also raised red flags. A review by her office found that more than 100 nurses and psychiatric workers on the state payroll had at least doubled their salaries with overtime, working as many as 90 hours a week.

The next time you try to tell me that a government option for health care will be cheaper and more effective than private businesses, try to explain to me how
government employees getting $170,000 in overtime added to their base pay of $100,000, for a total salary of $270,000 is reasonable and in the best interest of the state, the citizens, or the job being performed.

The online tool E-Verify, now used voluntarily by employers, wrongly clears illegal workers about 54 percent of the time, according to Westat, a research company that evaluated the system for the Homeland Security Department. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped by 43,000 to a seasonally adjusted 440,000 for the week ended February 6, down from a revised 483,000 in the prior week, the Labor Department said.

Let's see if I can understand this. Barack Hussein Obama's highly paid charlatans are predicting that the new job bill will create about 100,000 jobs per month (normally they grossly overestimate the positive, and minusculely underestimate the negative). The Labor Department reported about 450,000 new jobless claims in the last week. Now when I whip out my handy dandy calculator, and figure 450,000 jobs lost in a week, and 4 weeks in a month, that works out to 1.8 million new job losses per month. Barack Hussein Obama estimates his job bill will be creating about .1 million new jobs per month. And if we subtract this from that, we end up with 1.7 million net job loss per month. I guess that means that Barack Hussein Obama has quite a few years before there are no jobs left in this country.

That is quite an accomplishment.
