Belgian vote on Muslim veils could echo in Europe
Belgium's vote to ban full face veils in public is the furthest any European country has gone to confront a tiny minority whose choice in clothing has come to symbolize the issue of integrating some Muslim minorities.
Integrating? I think the Muslim press has it wrong.
Women wearing burqas are not integrating into European society. Any woman who is ordered to, or wants to continue dressing and acting like a third class citizen (behind second class citizens-goats and sheep) should have that right. Those women and their owners should be able to exercise that right in any third world country where women without rights is the natural order. But in a modern educated, industrialized society, exceptions should not be made for barbaric customs of medieval religions that oppress women, children and members of other religions.
