Bill seeks to end some furloughs for Calif workers
The targeted employees would be those who work for agencies that collect taxes or receive their revenue from sources other than the state's general fund, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles.
If passed, this bill sets a bad precedent.
Think about this for a bit.
Any agency that collects money that is used to fund themselves is allowed to keep all their employees. Do you want to bet that any agency that doesn't collect money will start charging for their service to prevent furloughs for their workers. Do you want to dial a 900 number to talk to someone in the government? Do you want the Department of Animal Care and Control selling the dogs and cats to "Pup 'N' Taco" to help meet their budget? Do you really want to bribe appointed and elected officials for a personal meeting?
If this starts, where will it end?
That would be very interesting in light of the Brown Act. ;)
