Hundreds of students can't return to Beverly Hills schools
Why would a city want to pay for the services it provides to it's residents from the taxes it collects from them?
Like any good news story these days, this one leaves unanswered the most important question. Why is the City of Beverly Hills making this change? The city of Beverly Hills previously received the funding for their educational system from the state of California. The city of Beverly Hills is now planning on funding their educational system from property taxes collected from the residents. When they make this change, they will start excluding students who's parents don't pay property taxes.
The state of California is running out of money, and will likely be cutting off funding for all non-essential services (police, fire, prisons, education, ...).
The city of Beverly Hills may want to keep their educational system intact. Therefore, depending on the state of California for their funding is not the answer.
I can understand and feel sorry for any parent that has to send their child to the shambles that the city of Los Angeles has made of their education system. But does that make it wrong for the city of Beverly Hills to want to do better for their residents?
