The survivalist industry mostly died out after the cold war ended. You know, the cold war was when the fear of nuclear attack, and the destruction of American as we know it seems imminent. After the cold war ended, that started to seem less likely.

Do to all the hard work of the Barack Hussein Obama administration, survivalist businesses are now thriving again. Americans are now being told they are causing the destruction of the world, and must pay for it. And the savior of our economy still hasn't been able to make people believe that the economy can recover when increasing numbers of people continue losing their homes and their jobs.

So, those who still have homes and jobs are now starting to stockpile food and goods for the next inevitable collapse. With recent examples of government help (economy, Hurricane Katrina, ...) still fresh in their memories, they are afraid that if they have to rely on the government they will be unlikely to survive.
