Detroit's Life After Death Is No Paradise
Government Motors (GM) and Chrysler (a subdivision of Government Motors) have bounced back from their 2009 sales levels and near death experiences to reach all the way up to their 1982 sales levels.
But don't worry that vehicle sales are not what the congress expected and predicted they should be. Since the cash for clunkers was such a success at moving future sales into the current period, the government is working on other brilliant ways to save the government automobile production division.
Thanks to the progress of the Health Care Deform bill, and the provision to make it a crime to not buy health insurance, the government is looking at something similar to save the auto industry. They will make it a crime to not buy a new car every year. And if the government also requires that you trade in your old vehicle on your new vehicle, and the government requires that the old vehicles can be converted into scrap metal, everyone gets a net benefit. Anyone who can't afford a new vehicle will be forced to ride on public transportation (which the green movement encourages). Scrapping the old vehicles could be considered recycling (which the green movement also approves of). Thus you get a win win situation all the way around.
