This article mentions that pregnant women are normally excluded from drug studies.

I wonder why?

It seems to me that pregnant women should be forced to participate in these drug studies. This would make the drug studies doubly effective. You could temporarily damage the health of the women, and potentially permanently damage the health of the unborn children.

What is not to love?

After all, most new drugs are unnatural creations from some laboratory. And why would anyone expect that one of these unnatural laboratory creations would have unexpected side effects?
