Is it Always Better to Have Health Insurance?

How does health insurance work?

The individual paying for health insurance is betting they will get sick, and that it will cost a lot of money to pay for the required care until they get better.

The company selling the insurance is betting that the individual will not get sick, and thus won't cost the insurance company anything.

If a lot of individuals are correct, the insurance company ends up paying out more than it can afford, and goes bankrupt.

If the company is correct, it pays out nothing and makes a very big profit.

What do you think the insurance company wants to do?

If you guessed pay out lots of money and go bankrupt, you might as well stop reading now, as you have serious mental problems that will prevent you from understanding anything I have ever written or will ever write on this blog.

How do you think the insurance company works to prevent payouts to sick individuals?

Require second opinions, require lots of paperwork, require lots of processing time for the paperwork, require ...

So by the time you actually get to see a doctor, you are supposed to be dead or cured.

What happens if you actually happen to have money? You immediately get to see the doctor, and whatever care (if necessary) gets started immediately.

Aren't you glad the health care deform bill currently working it's way through the senate and congress will make it a crime (punishable by a large fine) to NOT have health insurance?

Who do you think benefits from this?
